Advice from the Red Rooster

When asked how kids could improve thier game, Doug Rader had this bit of advice: "They should eat their baseball cards because there's a lot of information on the back of them, like pitching and batting hints."

Hmmmm...tasty! I wonder how they go with milk?

I was too young to see Rader play with Houston, so I had to do a little research on the guy. It seems he was a bit of a prankster. I've read tales of him burning base balls the dugout to keep warm, taking his clothes off to ward off unwanted visitors, and other crazy things. Sounds like the guy was quite a character during his playing days.

Any way, here's the other card I sent off to Doug:

  1. I like the "R" in his signature. Very cool.

  2. On a side note, how did you get a nice big banner for your blog. I am trying to change mine up a bit and am not having much luck.

  3. Trial and error got me this banner. First, I dumped a lot of cards on my scanner, then cropped a section of it. I resized it, but it was fuzzy looking. I don't bother to read the user manual for Paint Shop Pro so I just mess around with pictures until they look right. I decided to select a different function when I resized the last time I did some editing on the banner and that time it came out nice and clear.

  4. Not really surprised to hear Rader encouraging kids to eat cards. He wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box when he managed with Texas either.
